Posted December 13, 2012 - Five Harford County establishments licensed to sell alcoholic beverages failed the latest compliance test by the county liquor control board by selling to a minor working undercover with liquor board inspectors and the county sheriff's office, liquor board officials said.

In all, 27 licensed businesses were checked Monday, with 22 not selling to the minor, the liquor board said in a news release issued Thursday.

Of the five locations that sold alcohol to the 19-year-old employee of the liquor board's undercover program, none of them requested identification from the board's underage purchaser, the liquor board said.

The locations that served the underage purchaser were: Bellissimo Restaurant in Bel Air, Edgewood Liquors in Edgewood, Gene's Bar & Restaurant in Forest Hill, Marlin & Ray's in Bel Air and VFW Post 5838 in Joppatowne.

Those cited with selling to the minor will have their cases heard by the liquor board. If the board finds a violation occurred, penalties can include fines and/or suspensions.

The locations that were tested and were in compliance are: Aberdeen Liquors, Abingdon Liquors, Bel Air Billiards, Bel Air Liquors, Bull on the Beach, Buontempo Brothers, C.R. Wings, Chili's, Cliff's Liquors, Cork & Barrel, Double T Diner, Festival Wine & Spirits, Forty Liquors, Fuji Sushi, Kent Island Seafood, Khodiyar 7-11, Maria D's Bistro, North Harford Liquors, Old School Tavern, Saubel's Market, Texas Roadhouse and Woodbridge Liquors.

According to the liquor board news release, the compliance testing program is conducted during random times throughout the year in order "to validate that alcohol licensed establishments are lawfully selling alcoholic beverages."

The testing performed Monday included businesses with off-premises sales (liquor stores), full service restaurants and private clubs.
